Uber and UberEats

Ever thought of a good idea you think would make money? Then for whatever reason dismissed it, maybe due to the lack of funds, time and or energy.

You’re not alone, thousands of great ideas never see the light of day. But every once in a while comes a person with an idea and they are determined to bring it to life.

Such was the case of Garret Camp and Travis Kalanick the founders of Uber technologies in 2009. And then added UberEats in 2014.

UberEats was first introduced in Santa Monica, California. Then quickly expanded to include Chicago, New York and Barcelona.

What is UberEats and how does it work? Its simple UberEats teams up with restaurants in different cities to offer a wide variety of cuisines, whether your looking for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

You just download the UberEats app to your i phone or android. Then order and pay including an optional gratuity, you can use your credit/ debit card that is pr-registered with UberEats.

The app detects your location and displays all the restaurant open in your area at that time. When you’ve placed your order you are notified of the price and delivery charge.

You can then track your delivery status on your phone. All orders are delivered by couriers using cars, bikes and some even on foot. It is simple, quick and easy.

Of course not all good ideas work out this well. You must have a need for your product and of course the money for start up and even then there is no guarantee.

UberEats is a growing thriving business, its a good example of a person who took their idea and made it a reality.

Although it started small, over the course of the last few years it has become available in numerous cities. Maybe in the very near future UberEats will be available in your city if it’s already there.

Kickstarter is an American corporation in Brooklyn, New York. The company’s mission is to bring creative projects to life, by maintaining a global crowdfunding platform.

Kickstarter is enormous, over 10 million people have backed a kickstarter project. They come from every walk of life and every continent on earth.

The company measures their success, not by profits but how well they achieve their mission. In 2015 they became a benefit corporation.

Thereby becoming obligated to consider the impact on society for every decision they make. Also lay out specific goals and commitments, in helping projects come to life.

Kickstarter is an independent company of 131 people working together, connecting people around inspiring projects, and they have fun doing it.

Between them they have backed 34,000 projects. From their launch in April 2009 a lot has taken place. For instance one project even won an Oscar.

Kickstarter has grown from a single idea on how to help people develop their creative ideas. Each project must be something new and creative to share with others.

These projects must have a clear goal, like making a book, work of art or album. It has to eventually be complete and something must be produced.

A project is defined as a finite work with a clear precise goal that will be brought to life. The funding is the amount needed to complete the creators project.

Funding is either all or nothing. No one is charged for a pledge unless they reach the funding goal. This way the budget is already available before moving forward.

Backer are the people who pledge their money, so they may join the creator in working to bring their project idea to life.

When it comes to rewards the creators has a chance to share with their backer community by offering a piece of their project.

Typically these pieces are one of a kind, limited editions or even copies of their creative work that they have produced.

Kickstarter is a great idea allowing a person to produce their creative project with the total funding they need to see it through and bring it to life.

How Ben’s Courier Service Took Off

Although business experts say a business plan is required for starting a new business, it’s not always true. For every business that fails due to poor planning, another fails because of over planning.

The secret of a successful courier service business is providing services not available from the bigger firms. What delivery services should you offer? Your business plan wont tell you that, but your customers can.

Ben, a 35 year old courier driver, noticed a need for another courier service in the city he lived in. One that could pick up and deliver the same day, but also with service to other near by communities, that do not yet have this kind of service.

courier truckHe had experience in all areas of the business, including dispatching, which was extremely important. He had even over the years gained knowledge of weights and billing, another important aspect of running a courier service.

Over the next several months Ben thought a lot about starting up on his own. This would take a lot of planning as he first needed to secure the financing, then a building with an office and room to house several trucks.

He would also need drivers and an office worker and even log books and weigh bills.

After discussing this with his wife Alison, they agreed to go ahead and open their own courier business.

Ben secured a loan, a building with an office and side area for vehicles, purchased a few trucks and hired 5 drivers.

After the first year full of numerous problems and an unimaginable amount of hours worked by both Ben and his wife, the business was beginning to show a profit, and they decided now may be a good time to expand.

Over the next several years they continued to expand, moving to a much larger building, with enough space to house their growing fleet of trucks and flat beds. The building was even big enough that they could have their own shop and mechanic to repair the vehicles.

All of this of course was not without sacrifice – they both worked 6 days a week, and were unable to take holidays. The business also expanded to areas even further away covering places no other courier was accessing.

Regardless how much planning you do, its only a hunch or educated guess about how well your business will do. The secret is to test your ideas as quickly and cheaply as possible, then improve and refine them.

Ben recognized the demand for reliable, cost effective delivery services had been growing in the area for several years. In addition to a growing population, the customers needed faster service especially for time sensitive materials, and believed there was ample room for another reliable courier service.

Ben’s marketing strategy was to provide dependable and exceptional delivery to businesses and professional who have a regular need for pick up and delivery. Second was to gain customers who need couriers service occasionally, such as last minute parts and supplies.

His timing was impeccable and he and his wife now own a thriving courier business.

Even Cupcakes Can Be A Money Making Project

cupcakesWhen I was around 9 years of age nothing pleased me more than having a project to do. It always made me feel good to be in charge of something, no matter how big or small. Budding projects do not have to last a lifetime or make millions, it’s just the fact that you take your good idea and bring it to completion.

Take for instance a group of school children given a challenge. They need to make money for a school trip they will be taking. When faced with such a problem, it’s a great idea to brain storm – this way they come up with numerous ideas and suggestions.

All the ideas should be written down and then eliminated one by one until only a few remain, each of the remaining should be given an equal amount of discussion and thought. Now after all this you should be left with one idea which everyone agrees is the best for the situation.

Then you can begin to plan. What items do you need? How will you advertise it? What is the market for the item? Can it be purchased cheaply and sold for a profit?

When all these questions are answered you can begin to implement your plan.

Now lets say for example the idea you are left with is a cupcake sale. If each of the children brought 1 dozen cupcakes to the sale that would amount to 360 different, delicious small cakes that were absolutely free.

The next thing is you need to figure out if this amount is enough to meet your potential sales, if so, you are all set for the next step.

That step should be the advertising, decide what kind of advertising would be appropriate and how you can make sure it reaches all your potential customers. A good idea would be for the children to make posters using poster board, allowing them to do it would again cut down on costs as all you will need is poster board and art supplies.

They could then place the advertisements all around the school advertising not only the sale but also the time and price.

The price should be carefully considered, not overpriced or under priced, you want the person to feel good about purchasing your product. When the day arrives for the sale its all hands on deck everyone working together.

After the sale, say you have sold all the cupcakes at a price of 50c each, you will of made $180 minus the cost of the poster board of $5, your profit would be $175.

So as you can see it’s all in the planning, if you have come up with what you think is a great idea, figure out what you need, how you will advertise it, what the market is like for the product, is it cost effective for you, and what the selling price would be.

You are basically ready to implement your own budding project.

More Blogging Tips For Entrepreneurs

blog-picSo you have a budding project! You have your website and your start up money, but did you know it takes a lot of time and effort to to keep your website updated and fresh. It is not a secret that Google likes to see websites add or update content on a regular basis, but what happens when you run out of ideas?

Well there are several things you can do to overcome this problem. First lets explain why you need to keep your website updated and fresh. One of the main reasons to keep it fresh is that Google prefers it, the search engine likes to see activity and they favor sites that frequently update their content.

Another reason is that returning visitors will also appreciate updated material. So that brings us to the problem of what do you do when you run out of ideas? One thing you could do is start a blog – blog topics that relate to industry news and trends, you can also create the posts to answer your audiences questions and needs.

The blogs should be 300 to 600 words, some people argue about the number of words believing the shorter the better to keep your audiences attention, but Google prefers the longer ones. Also keep in mind Google does not want to see multiple pages on your site that discuss the same topic, in fact, such a tactic maybe seen as duplicate content. So make it relevant to your industry and make sure it is deserving of a post.

Another good idea to keep things fresh is to rewrite existing pages. There is always a way to improve your site look for pages that you can make better, sometimes the pages are outdated as new information or statistics are released, you can rewrite or just extend the existing page.

Google will notice the changes you make and see it as fresh content, just keep in mind not to sacrifice quality for quantity. So the more pages you have the better chance someone has of finding your site and thus increasing traffic, another advantage of increased pages is the fact you have a better chance Google will notice your site and the higher the ranking you will receive.

Although doing all these things will not guarantee your success it will certainly help you in maintaining your website and ensuring you only put quality pages on the site to help keep your rating high.

The Affiliate Site: Great Startup Ideas

start-upHave you ever thought of making and developing an on line business? What steps would this entail? We are going to take a quick look at this and see if it is a viable start up.

First, you need an idea of what product will sell and it must be something the public wants or needs. This requires time and skill. Then you will need a domain and it must be registered in your name, next design and build your website and use search engines to drive targeted buyers to the site.

Now while this sounds easy it does not guarantee that it will work, however it has worked for lots of people and some have done quite well.

One site that is just in the budding stage is rollawaybed.net – this website was started about one year ago and has grown slowly over the past several months. The website not only covers the roll away bed with informative and in depth articles, but also reviews the most popular beds as well.

Now you may wonder how they make their money. Well when a person goes to their website to read an article they can, if they choose, click on a link to Amazon or any other affiliated site where the beds are sold. If they buy a product from Amazon you make a commission on the amount of the purchase.

So a lot depends on how good your website is and the need for your product. While this particular site is still in progress another site that was just a budding project that went on to become a multi billion dollar site is Amazon.com

Amazon was founded by a technology entrepreneur named Jeffery Preston Bezos. Jeffery started out with 20 initial ideas and narrowed it down to one – books.

He thought books were the best idea as they are not only reasonably priced but there’s a universal demand. His parents supplied the start up money and he began selling the books on line from his garage.

Within two months Amazons sales were rising and the company expanded and continued to expand and is now the largest internet based retailer in the world.

While this is definitely a great success story not everyone will achieve such a successful venture. It takes hard work, perseverance, an excellent idea and some initial start up money to aid in making a dream come true.

Startup: Pico Brew – Make Beer As Easy As Coffee

PicoCommonly referred to as the The Keurig beer maker, this innovative machine was launched by ex Microsoft president Bill Mitchel who is co-founder of Pico brew. Mitchel also helped introduce Zymatic in 2013, a table top brewing machine.

This new machine is simply known as Pico. The device can brew 5 litre batches of beer in a relatively short amount of time. The Pico uses pods, similar to the Keurig coffee maker, and the pods are the biggest advantage of the machine. Instead of loading up the loose ingredients, you simply have to put in the contents of the pod and some yeast (which comes in a separate pod) and the device makes beer. Read More
